So yesterday I’m scrolling through Facebook, minding my own business, when I see it: my friend’s ex-husband — let’s call him Mr. Hallmark Dad — has posted a big, gushy “Happy Birthday to Me” status.
Complete with:
💙 “Family means everything.”
💙 “Grateful for the love in my life.”
💙 A stock photo-level smile that could almost fool you into thinking he’s a decent human being.
Except… here’s the kicker: the man has had his children taken away from him. As in, full-time custody to the mother. As in, zero contact until the kids turn 18 and choose for themselves. The court basically said, “Sir, the only thing you’re qualified to parent is a houseplant… and even that’s risky.”
But there he is, broadcasting his fake family-man persona to the world, and his followers are eating it up like it’s Sunday brunch.
The thing is, this is what narcissists do best — curating a fantasy life for public consumption while the truth sits in a court file thicker than a phone book. His friends have no idea. They “like” his post, comment “You’re such a great dad,” and completely miss the reality that the only “family” in his life now is the one in his imagination.
It’s almost performance art at this point — except the show’s free, the script is delusional, and the lead actor believes his own lines.
